 Provence Côte d'Azur

The region of Provence Côte d’Azur extends from the Camargue to France’s far east, from the Vaucluse and the Alps of Upper Provence to the Italian border and the de la Roya Valley.

Within these reaches there is a mosaic of landscapes like the Brignolais, the Toulonnais, the Vençois, Grasse, Aix and Nice’s hinterlands, not to mention the Vésubie Valley or the High Valley of the Var. All of these areas are united by the Provençal language and a common historical heritage...

The departments of the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur region include the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, the Alpes-Maritimes, the Bouches-du-Rhône, the Hautes-Alpes, the Var and the Vaucluse. The region’s geography is characterized by great diversity and by the clear division of its territory.

Situated on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea in Southeast France, the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur region has a population of 4.8 millions residents .

From Cote d'Azur to Alpes , like in Mercantour or in Alpilles, you will discover a region with transparent waters, mountain lakes, forests and lavande fields...

With its beauty , Provence has attracted artists like
Picasso, Matisse , RenoirMossa    or  Bréa… fortunes like the Grimaldi family, the great Russian or English families, as well as the great men of politics…All participated in the launch of this region while bringing sea bathing into fashion.

But beneath the attributes of the "Belle of the Mediterranean" , beneath the innocent appearance of the country of Jean de Florette or of Marius, the Riviera has a much more complex history.

Because of its access to the sea, all governments have tried to appropriate it, such as the Catalans, the Angevins, like
Queen Jeanne or the good King René.

Each time the Provençal people negotiated their independence by force, sometimes by refusing to subjugate themselves, like in Nice, or the participating in revolts, like during the revolution with characters like
Mirabeau or Sieyès.
This region is still a land of exchange; Europe made no mistake in choosing
Marseilles as the capital of culture in 2013.
